Kingston Builders
Situated on the idyllic banks of the River Thames, Kingston is located just 12 miles from the centre of London. As a popular University and market town, Kingston has a wide range of properties, from unique student accommodation to grand detached family homes.
At JVB we have spent a number of years in the area helping to rebuild and reshape the homes of a number of its residents.
History and architecture of Kingston
Kingston formed its market town status in the late 12th Century when Kingston Bridge was first developed across the River Thames. Due to its rich history, Kingston Old Town is now notable for its mix of architectural styles and the juxtaposition of buildings of different architectural origin and contrasting materials. There are a handful of partial medieval buildings still standing as well as some pre-Georgian vernacular buildings and Victorian properties, too.
For much of the 20th century, Kingston was a major military aircraft manufacturing centre specialising in fighter aircraft, and since then the town has long been renowned as the birth place of the Hurricane, Hawker Fury and Harrier aircraft. But British Aerospace closed its Lower Ham road factory in 1992 and made way for a great deal of housing development in the area.
